inside michigan athletics Michigan's Top Olympic Sports Performers Men's cross country junior Mason Ferlic: The team captain is a good bet to garner first-team all-conference honors at the Big Ten meet Nov. 3 after he showed what he was capable of at the prestigious Wisconsin adidas Invitational Oct. 19. Ferlic was the top Big Ten scorer at the event, placing 12th with an 8,000-meter time of 23:35 in earning the league's Athlete of the Week honors. Women's soccer freshman Madisson Lewis: The Wolverines have been looking for a complement offensively to senior Nkem Ezurike, and this year, they've had it in the form of Lewis. The Canton, Mich., native is second on the team with five goals, third with six assists and second with 16 points. The 5-5 midfielder/ forward had a goal and an assist in Michigan's 2-1 win over No. 23 Nebraska Oct. 6. Field hockey junior Lauren Hauge: The redshirt junior has appeared in only 11 of 17 games this season, but her involvement is celebration enough after the Tulsa, Okla., native missed both the 2011 and 2012 campaigns with separate knee injuries. Hauge registered her first career goal Oct. 6 versus Ball State and picked up her first assist on Rachel Mack's overtime game winner against Ohio State Oct. 20. Men's swimming and diving senior John Wojciechowski: The Scottsdale, Ariz., native was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after touching the wall in first place in six events during two days of competition Oct. 11‑12. Wojciechowski helped U-M to relay wins in the 200 freestyle and medley races at the Dennis Stark Relays Oct. 11, and then scored two individual wins and two relay victories in a tri meet with Auburn and Notre Dame Oct. 12. Volleyball senior Jennifer Cross: With 80 blocks this year, Cross has overtaken program ace Lyndsay Miller (475 from 2004‑07) to become Michigan's all-time blockers leader with 498 through Oct. 28. A strong offensive player also, she has 235 kills this season (second on the team) and 1,131 in her career to rank ninth all time. The Scarborough, Ontario, native is one of only three Wolverines in school history with 1,000 terminations and 400 blocks.
