Through Seven Games
1. Tight End Jake Butt: The early enrollee impressed the coaches during
spring practice and made huge strides during the summer to nudge himself up
the depth chart. Sophomore tight end Devin Funchess' increased role as a wide
receiver has opened an opportunity for Butt, and he has taken advantage of it,
playing in all seven games, with three starts. He has hauled in seven catches for
67 yards and played well as a blocker on the edge.
2. Running Back Derrick Green: Despite the number of runners competing
for playing time behind fifth-year senior running back Fitzgerald Toussaint,
Green has vaulted up the depth chart as a rookie. He has chipped in 32 carries
for 105 yards (3.3 yards per rush) and two scores, helping take some of the
considerable workload off Toussaint's shoulders.
