In 2010, Gibby's first year, when current senior captains Mark Beams and Morsi Rayyan were freshmen, Michigan finished eighth in the conference and seventh in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The program has come a long way since then. The Wolverines led the Big Ten Championships Nov. 3 with 600 meters to go, before falling to eventual champion Indiana down the stretch. At the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Nov. 15, the Wolverines finally won their first postseason crown since the 2007 NCAA regional, finishing three points ahead of host Wisconsin. "We came into the program at the same time as Gibby, and we worked through the good and the bad, all the way up from where we were," said Beams, who was one of three Michigan upperclassmen to finish in the top 10 of the race (eighth, 30:33).
