inside michigan athletics Maize And Blue Notebook Work In Progress Work continues at the Michigan baseball field where the infield and outfield grass have been torn out among a number of small projects. "The stadium upgrade project is nothing short of awesome," head coach Erik Bakich said in early November. "The construction crew responsible for doing the sub-base is just about done and AstroTurf will get in here and start laying their turf down. "The project is probably less than a month away from being completed. It's going to be a state-of-the-art baseball and softball complex. The dugout expansion looks terrific. The video board is going to be a game changer from an atmosphere and recruiting standpoint. The nutrition lounge has also been a game changer from a player development standpoint. "All in all, we have some incredible upgrades taking place that we are extremely excited about. And the impact it's going to have on not only our current team but also our future team." Honored • Former Michigan golf coach Thomas Trueblood will be inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame Dec. 9, the GCAA announced. Trueblood coached U-M from 1901-35, leading the Maize and Blue to national titles in 1934 and 1935, and five Big Ten titles. • At a ceremony Nov. 9, Michigan's 2013 men's swimming and diving team received their national championship rings. Athletics director David Brandon presented the rings to 45 student-athletes, six coaches and nine support staffers. "We had a super-competitive team, a group of racers that wanted to win every time they got up on the blocks and believed they could do it," senior Connor Jaeger said. "That's what it takes to win a championship. You have to believe." • Women's lacrosse coach Jennifer Ulehla was inducted into the James Madison University Athletics Hall of Fame Nov. 15. Ulehla led the Dukes to three conference titles and six NCAA appearances in eight seasons at JMU from 1995-2002, including a run to the Final Four in 2000. She was twice named the Colonial Athletic Association's Coach of the Year in 1995 and 2000. Signed, Sealed & Delivered • In addition to women's basketball, and men's basketball's signing classes, Michigan also announced classes in November for men's tennis (two athletes), women's lacrosse (10), softball (four), women's tennis (one), women's gymnastics (five) and volleyball (four). More sports, including hockey, were expected to announce their classes this month.
