UNDER THE DOME TOP OF THE CLASS Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Lindsey Streepey — Diving The sophomore from Texas became the second Irish diver to win the ACC's Diver of the Week award this season. Streepey, who is making a strong return after missing a significant chunk of time due to wrist surgery, claimed the prize during the second week of December after placing in the top three in three different events at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa. She finished second in the three-meter board, and third in both the one-meter board and platform. Tyler Stockton — Football The fifth-year senior won Notre Dame's "Irish Around The Bend" trophy this season for his voluntary community service while playing football. Two days later, Stockton spent his Sunday afternoon helping children pick out Christmas gifts at a charity event. The nose guard returned to the team this fall largely for his locker room presence, but ended up making three tackles and playing in 10 games, including significant minutes after Louis Nix's season-ending knee operation. Nick Besler — Soccer One of five Irish players to make the NCAA All-Tournament team, Besler assisted on a game-tying goal during Notre Dame's national championship win Dec. 15. The junior midfielder headed a pass to scorer Leon Brown. He has started every game in the past two seasons for Notre Dame. Matt Besler, Nick's brother and a former Irish player, won the MLS Cup a week earlier. He also got married the day before Notre Dame's championship match. Madison Cable — Basketball The junior shooting guard came off the bench to score 21 points, a career high, in a 90-48 blowout of UCLA Dec. 7. Cable played regularly in Notre Dame's first nine games this season and averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest. The Pennsylvania native missed her freshman season with injuries, but has developed into a quality depth addition for the Irish this season.
