Head coach Brian Kelly said meeting scores of alumni and fans gave him and the rest of the team a better appreciation of Notre Dame's reach. "Our players are going to walk away feeling that they were a part of this bowl season as much as any other program," Kelly said. "They also leave with an understanding of the tradition in New York and Yankee Stadium, and how many followers we have out here." Irish athletics director Jack Swarbrick said Notre Dame had a list of seven bowl options it contemplated heading into the postseason. He said he was pleased with the program's eventual choice to land in New York.
