points and five rebounds. Much of the second half oscillated between one- and three-point Irish leads, but Notre Dame provided an answer for each Hoosier run. Junior guard/forward Pat Connaughton provided a boost in the final 20 minutes after not scoring the entire first half. He finished with 14 points and eight 2013-14 RESULTS/ UPCOMING SCHEDULE Date Nov. 8 Nov. 10 Nov. 17 Nov. 22 Nov. 24 Dec. 1 Dec. 3 Dec. 7 Dec. 9 Dec. 11 Dec. 14 Dec. 21 Dec. 29 Jan. 4 Jan. 7 Jan. 11 Jan. 15 Jan. 19 Jan. 21 Jan. 25 Jan. 28 Feb. 1 Feb. 3 Feb. 8 Feb. 11 Feb. 16 Opponent (TV) Result/Time (ET) Miami (Ohio) W, 74-62 Stetson W, 80-49 Indiana State L, 83-70 Santa Clara W, 84-69 Army W, 93-60 Cornell W, 101-67 at Iowa^ L, 98-93 Delaware! On Dec. 21, the Irish appeared poised to record their third consecutive win over a top-three opponent when they led No. 3 and undefeated Ohio State by eight points in the final minute. However, without senior point guard Eric Atkins — who fouled out with 1:34 remaining — the Irish melted down in crunch time. The Buckeyes outscored Notre Dame 14-3 in the final minute to remain undefeated on the season. Without their floor general, the Irish were flummoxed by Ohio State's full-court press and turned it over on consecutive inbounds plays after LaQuinton Ross' jumper pulled the Buckeyes within six. Following the pair of turnovers — one by senior guard Jerian Grant and one by freshman guard Demetrius Jackson — Ohio State suddenly had life in a two-point game. Ohio State quickly fouled Jackson — who made both free throws — and pulled within one after Ross sunk three of his own on a foul beyond the arc by Connaughton. Freshman guard Steve Vasturia entered the game to give the Irish another capable ball handler. He missed the front end of a oneand-one, and Lenzelle Smith's layup on the other end put Ohio State ahead for good with 16.9 seconds remaining. In all, the Irish shot 11 of 19 from the free throw line and turned the ball over four times in the final minute while missing 2 of 5 free throw attempts in one of the most devastating regular-season losses in recent program history. ✦
