getting to know REDSHIRT SECOND-YEAR WRESTLER BLAISE BUTLER To say Blaise Butler's patience is being rewarded would be an understatement. After spending two seasons watching All-American Jedd Moore, Butler has replaced Moore at 157 pounds in head coach Steve Garland's lineup. Butler, whose record was 9-4 through matches of Jan. 8, gave an indiaction of things to come when he beat then-No. 11 Ian Miller of Kent State at the Hokie Duals Nov. 10. That victory vaulted Butler into the 13th spot in the WIN Magazine rankings. Last season, Butler was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll. My advice to student-athletes is: Work hard. The biggest difference for me between this year and last year has been the sacrifices I've made and surrounding myself with the right people. The primary challenge facing student-athletes today is: Time management. Sometimes it's hard to balance school, athletics and social life. Social life takes a back seat during the season. I have to work hard WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE … … TV show: "Breaking Bad" … movie: "Remember the Titans" … actor and actress? Will Smith and Mila Kunis … Charlottesville hangout/restaurant? Cookout … musician/band? Kendrick Lamar … pro sports team? Chicago Bulls … food? Chocolate chip cookies … UVa class? Athletics in the University … sport (other than wrestling)? Soccer … pre-match ritual? I usually eat a couple of bowls of oatmeal and some Gatorade, and I'm good to go. i10-13.V-Sports.indd 4 to make sure my academics don't take a back seat as well. The best thing about UVa is: The people at UVa are friendly. Everyone you see usually has a smile. Everyone on our team is close. We think of ourselves as a family. It makes it a lot easier to be away from home when you have people who are as friendly as you have here. Why I chose UVa: The academics were a huge part and so were athletics. I love the fact this is a great school and we have a program on the rise.
