UNDER THE DOME the right fit for us." The feeling is mutual for Riggs, who said the welcome he got from players and coaches during his visit to campus in late February sealed his decision to come to South Bend. He plans to make a return trip for the Blue-Gold Game April 12 and get started with the team during the summer academic period. In the meantime, he remains in Gainesville finishing his degree and working out on his own. Riggs said he is focused on getting his body back into "corner shape" after spending a season at safety. "I took a whole year off from corner to play safety," he said. "I have to get my feet back under me. I have to get used to man coverage outside instead of in the slot. That's the kind of stuff I have to work on. It shouldn't be a problem at all, just a little bit of rust." He talks to VanGorder, Alford and secondary coach Kerry Cooks on a weekly basis to remain in the loop dur- ing spring practice. He said he hopes the conversations will help build re- lationships like the ones he had with coaches in Florida and will allow him to hit the ground running full speed when he starts his brief Notre Dame career.
