UNDER THE DOME matter publicly, Shembo said. "Yes, I wanted to talk about it, but they had to keep everything confi- dential," said Shembo, who added that he did not lobby Kelly for the opportunity to speak about it. "Now that I'm out [of the university], I can talk about it. "My name was go- ing to flames and it just made my name look bad and I can't even speak." At his opening press conference of spring practice Feb. 28, Kelly addressed the situation. "That was a collab- orative decision," Kelly said. "I don't make any decisions independently when it comes to major decisions at this univer- sity. The head football coach works in concert with our administration. We made a decision based upon the informa- tion that we had. We felt that it was in Prince's best interest that this was not a matter that needed to be discussed. "That was certainly something that he could have decided to discuss. We didn't threaten him with he couldn't play, or we were going to put him on the bench, or throw him out of school. It was his decision. But in talking to his parents and talking to Prince, we felt because of the infor- mation that we had in front of us, that it was a matter to be left alone at the time." Shembo's allotted in- terview time at the NFL Combine ran out before he could share more de- tails from his side of the story. Named Notre Dame's 2013 Defensive MVP, Shembo registered 48 tackles and 5.5 sacks as a senior during the 2013 season and is a projected mid-round selection in the NFL Draft in May. — Andrew Owens ATTENTION IRISH FANS Packages are available for all home football games Aug. 30 Rice Sept.6 Michigan Oct. 4 Stanford Oct. 11 North Carolina Nov. 15 Northwestern Nov. 22 Louisville Packages Include: * Game Tickets Endzone to the 45 yard line * Two night hotel Please visit www.diamondtravel.com for complete details 1-602-870-9197 26 years in business Shembo, his family and Notre Dame made a collective decision to not discuss the Lizzy Seeberg tragedy until after his college football career was finished.
