DEMETRIUS JACKSON MISSES TWO GAMES Jackson missed two games in mid- February due to what head coach Mike Brey called "poor academic habits." Jackson's unexpected absence at the Feb. 11 overtime win over Clemson created a swirl of speculation that the Mishawaka, Ind., native would trans- fer to Illinois, one of the finalists dur- ing his recruitment. Brey said it was more a matter of helping Jackson to improve academically than a question of his happiness during a difficult first season with the Irish. "With [Demetrius], it's real simple, just academic habits," said Brey, who added that he has dealt with this type of situation plenty of times as a coach. "He had such a great fall semester … and summer."
