have been eligible to play immedi- ately. Michigan transfer Jon Horford is re- ceiving significant interest from the Irish, a source told Blue & Gold Illus- trated. Horford is a 6-10, 250-pound forward who averaged 3.8 points and 4.2 rebounds last season. Despite his talent, he had difficulty emerging in the Wolverines rotation during the past two seasons that culminated with Final Four and Elite Eight berths. Hor- ford told MLive.com that the combina- tion of playing time and head coach John Beilein's guard-heavy system led to his transfer. He emerged as Notre Dame's top target on the transfer wire. NEWS AND NOTES • Head coach Mike Brey said everything is on track for guard Jerian Grant to return to Notre Dame June 15. Notre Dame suspended Grant for a semes- ter Dec. 22, but he expects to be reinstated in time for summer school. • Sophomore forward Eric Katenda continues to struggle with his left knee and is unlikely to experi- ence "full-barrel" contact in practice until mid-May, Brey said. With six scholarship players at offsea- son workouts, the Irish are implementing extensive three-on-three action. Brey said freshman guard Demetrius Jackson and sophomore forward Austin Burgett have been the most vocal with Eric Atkins, Tom Knight and Garrick Sherman gone. • Class of 2014 signee Bonzie Colson of Barrington (R.I.) St. Andrew's High School was named Rhode Island's Gatorade Player of the Year after closing his career with more than 1,900 points to finish among the best in school history. During his senior season, Colson averaged 18.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game while leading St. Andrew's to a 26-5 record. Colson is the No. 115 player in the country, the No. 26 small forward and the top player from Rhode Island according to 247Sports. ✦ Point guard Eric Atkins earned Monogram Club MVP honors at the team's awards banquet April 14.
