FAN FORUM NO OFFENSE, BUT … I've been reading Blue & Gold Illus‑ trated for about 30 years and want to thank you for all that you do. Regarding The Fifth Quarter "Year of The Quarterback" article in the March 2014 edition, I just thought I'd offer my perspective. After watching Brian Kelly for these four years, he's an offensive genius that can't coach offense. Have we had a single breakout offensive explosion against a good team under him? I re- call the Miami bowl game in 2010 be- ing okay, but we don't roll teams. Coach Kelly hasn't developed a run- ning game. He seems to abandon it early, and when he does run, far too often the back gets hit in the backfield. I realize he's been limited by the quarterback talent, but I'm not sure things will change with Everett Golson back. Remember the 2012 Boston Col- lege game? If we are as average this coming year with two four- or five-star backs, plenty of talent at the wideout and Golson back, will you put the blame on Kelly or is it fair to point to un- proven tight ends or whatever injuries we incur? Scott Levin San Diego Mr. Levin, everything always ultimately comes back to the coaching staff, especially by the fifth season. Golson and Malik Zaire both provide mobility at quarterback, and Kelly has stated that the skill positions are the best balanced since he's been here. For this team not to average at least 30 points per game for the first time in his tenure would With the returning talent on offense this year, it is realistic to expect Brian Kelly's team to average at least 30 points per game for the first time during his tenure in South Bend. Box 1007, Notre Dame, IN 46556 or e-mail to: lsomogyi@blueandgold.com CORRECTION Three incoming Notre Dame recruits in the March 2014 edition were mistakenly listed with birth dates in 1997: linebacker Nyles Morgan, of- fensive lineman Quenton Nelson and defensive end Andrew Trumbetti. All were born in 1996 and turned (or will turn) 18 this year.
