Kiefer followed her NCAA title run by winning the Junior World Cham- pionships in Bulgaria during the first week of April. She entered that tourna- ment as the No. 9 seed, but allowed only 41 touches through seven bouts on her way to claiming the top spot. Reaney's record-setting swims dur- ing the past month have changed her expectations for the future. She made the U.S. National Team last summer with her times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, but has bigger plans moving forward. She'll compete in the U.S. Open in August. Before then, she plans to train at SwimMAC in North Carolina, one of the coun- try's premier clubs, along with former Olympians medalists like Ryan Lochte and Cullen Jones. ✦ Irish Roundup BASEBALL (14-21 OVERALL, 3-15 ACC) Notre Dame won its first ACC series in program history April 12 by beating Boston College twice in a doubleheader. MEN'S LACROSSE (6-4, 2-2 ACC) The No. 9 Irish got back on track with a pair of non-conference victories in early April. After losing back- to-back ACC games to No. 7 Syracuse and No. 2 Duke in the stacked conference, Kevin Corrigan's team racked up 27 goals in wins over Marquette April 8 and Robert Morris April 12. The Irish wrapped up their regular season by hosting No. 3 Maryland April 19. WOMEN'S LACROSSE (9-5, 2-4 ACC) The 10th-ranked Irish picked up a big win against No. 7 Duke, 12-10, thanks to a career-high five goals from freshman standout Cortney Fortunato April 11. The Midseason All-American has 38 goals and 11 assists through her first 14 college games. Notre Dame had games remaining against Ohio State and Syracuse before attempting to make a run in the NCAA Tournament. SOFTBALL (26-9, 6-4 ACC) No. 23 Notre Dame hosted No. 7 Florida State for the first time in school history April 13 and split a doubleheader with the Seminoles. Freshman Karley Wester had seven hits in nine at-bats in the two games. Notre Dame won the first contest 8-5, before squandering a lead and eventually falling 9-7 in nine innings in the nightcap. MEN'S TENNIS (17-8, 6-4 ACC) Notre Dame shuffled its doubles lineups against Miami to end a dry spell in early April.
