"When I was in Detroit [at the Sound Mind, Sound Body camp], the Michigan coaches were saying how much better I had gotten, and how much bigger I've gotten," DeWeaver said. "When I came to camp, I had this goal. I had it in my mind that I was going to get this offer. I had my goal, and I reached it. "Coach Hoke gave me a hug. Then he was like, 'Now you know what you've got to do. You've got to build this class.' We talked about what I can accomplish, and I've been think- ing about bringing in a national championship." That's a similar experience to the one felt by rising sophomore de- fensive back Channing Stribling — only more so. DeWeaver held of- fers from Kentucky and Louisville (and was very close to a Texas offer) when Michigan came through. Be- fore he was getting on the field as a true freshman last fall, before he was a Wolverine, before he was an all-state defensive back as a senior in high school, Stribling was a 6-2, 165-pound cornerback with offers from Hampton and Charlotte, and some interest from Bowling Green. Then he camped at Michigan. "The defensive coach was just tell- ing me that I was a special player to him," Stribling said. "I came in unknown, and he liked the way I came in with a chip on my shoulder. … They're not out here looking for me, so I'm going to go ahead and get my name out there. He liked the way I worked hard. "We were in our lines going to drills and one-on-ones, and one of the coaches pulled me out and took me to the office. That's where I met Coach Hoke.
