MICHIGAN FOOTBALL MOUNT RUSHMORE In a series running Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on TheWolverine.com, our website staff is unveiling the Mount Rushmore of Michigan athletics posi- tion by position over the last 50 years. At quarterback, the top four were Rick Leach (1975-78), Jim Harbaugh (1983-86), Brian Griese (1994-97) and Tom Brady (1996-99). At running back, the four are Ron Johnson (1966-68), Rob Lytle (1973-76), Tyrone Wheatley (1991-94) and Mike Hart (2004-07). In the third installment, wide receivers include Anthony Carter (1979-82), Desmond Howard (1989-91), David Terrell (1998-2000) and Braylon Edwards (2004-07). PEPPERS POSITION In a video interview in June with Campus Insiders, Michigan head coach Brady Hoke said that five-star freshman Jabrill Peppers, the nation's top cornerback and No. 3 overall player according to Rivals.com, would begin his career at nickel back. "At nickel, Jabrill has the ability because a lot of times that inside receiver is a bigger guy," safeties coach Curt Mallory said. "But not all the time — he could be a fast guy. You need a guy that can cover but is not easy to block either. "And he's not your typical corner. He's very physical at 6-1, 202 pounds, and he'll win that battle at the line of scrimmage against most receivers." FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK nuisance. "She came every week. Didn't mat- ter where it was. And she suffered through it," Robinson said. "They'd get off the plane, and you'd see her all discombobulated. Headaches, eyes watering. "She was there to support her child, but I don't think she wanted to do it anymore, and I know Ty didn't want her to anymore. He loves his mother, and he could see with his own eyes — she would get off the plane and she'd be in pain. "I told her, 'Why do you fly out here?' I told her the next game we will be on national TV. 'Don't come out here to watch us play.' But every time I looked up, there she was." Michigan should know before camp commences Aug. 4 if Isaac is eligible this fall, but whether he can play or not, he told his former coach he is confident the decision to leave USC for U-M was the right one. "He reached out to me, called me and he said he felt good about his decision," Robinson said. "Michigan won't have any issues with him. He's really happy. The kid will go to class and do what he's supposed to do. "He's going to work hard in prac- tice. And when the lights go on, he's the kind of kid you win with."
