Dylan Larkin Headlines Wolverine Pair Selected In NHL Draft Anytime a Michigan skater or goalie is taken in the first round of the NHL Draft, there are some nervous cheers among Maize and Blue fans. The selec- tion increases the U-M hockey brand, but 12 of Michigan's 17 first-round picks throughout the program's history have left school early to pursue their NHL ambitions. That should not be a problem with the Wolverines' 18th first- round pick — Waterford, Mich., native Dylan Larkin — after the Team USA product went to the Detroit Red Wings with the No. 15 pick; Wings coach Mike Bab- cock is good friends with U-M's Red Berenson. Larkin was one of two U-M players selected in this year's draft, with rising sophomore goalie Zach Nagelvoort going to Edmonton with the No. 111 pick in the fourth round. "I have never been drafted by any team before," Nagelvoort told MGoBlue.com. "I never got drafted to the North American Hockey League, the United States Hockey League or On- tario Hockey League. I'm ecstatic. It's a dream come true." A recruited walk-on, Nagelvoort started 22 of 24 game appearances for the Maize and Blue, including Michigan's lone postseason contest, going 11-9-3 with a 2.20 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage, the latter ranking second in U-M's single-season annals. "He was a little bit of a late developer coming out of the NAHL," Oilers head scout Stu MacGregor said. "He's a goaltender who had a tremendous freshman year. They were a middle-of-the-road team, but he got them in the playoffs. We look at him as a goaltender that will continue to advance with good training Larkin, an incoming freshman forward, went to the Detroit Red Wings with the No. 15 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.
