56 ■ THE WOLFPACKER lege. He averaged 11.7 points per game and shot 37.6 percent from three-point land and 84.8 percent at the free throw line last year for WVU. His statistics are eerily similar to what Turner achieved at LSU and Lacey at Alabama. Henderson reached double figures in 18 of the 28 games he played in for the 17-16 Mountaineers, including a season-high 28 on 5-of-6 three-point shooting in an 87-81 win over Texas Tech Jan. 22. The lifelong Georgetown fan played his last game for West Virginia against the Hoyas. He had 13 points and three-pointers in a 77-65 loss in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament March 18. West Virginia star sophomore shooting guard Eron Harris announced he wanted to transfer March 24, and eventually picked Michigan State. Henderson followed suit and announced his transfer plans May 10. Henderson officially visited NC State and Maryland, and unofficially visited Richmond before picking the Wolfpack June 24. NC State faces West Virginia at Madison Square Garden Dec. 20 in New York City. "We have great leaders on our team and I think we will be really good this year," Hen- derson said. "I'm not saying that just to say that. I think if everybody does their job and plays as one team, we can be scary." Most assume that Henderson has trans- ferred to NC State to be closer to his family, but that isn't the case. His parents actually have moved to Baltimore. "I honestly didn't know a lot about State," said Henderson, who leaned on Warren for the inside scoop on the program. "I was never a State, Carolina or Duke fan and those schools growing up. I've been learning a lot about State. It's a great school, not only ath- letic-wise, but academically too. That is one of the main things our coaching staff and our advisors have been getting on us about keep- ing our the books first, and make sure our studies are where they should be." Preseason Projections Vary Lindy's Sports College Basketball is the most bullish of the preseason magazines when it comes to NC State's chances this season. Lindy's picked the Wolfpack as the No. 20 overall team in the country and No. 5 in the ACC. Sophomore point guard Anthony "Cat" Barber was also tabbed as the No. 17 point guard in the nation and third-team All-ACC. Writer Frank Burlison also named fresh- men Abdul-Malik Abu and Caleb Martin as two recruits who "will take you by surprise" in the ACC for Lindy's. Athlon Sports College Basketball predicts NC State to finish eighth in the ACC and to fall in its first NCAA Tournament game, while Blue Ribbon Basketball Yearbook and Sporting News both have the Wolfpack picked ninth in the league. NC State redshirt junior combo guard Trevor Lacey was named "most underrated player" in the ACC and second-team all-con- ference by Athlon. Sporting News tabbed Barber the Wolf- pack's "difference maker" on the squad. ■ WOLFPACK BASKETBALL PREVIEW ■ Preseason ACC Projections Sophomore point guard Anthony "Cat" Barber was tabbed as the No. 17 point guard in the nation by Lindy's Sports College Basketball.
