IRISH IN THE PROS The 2013 sixth-round draft pick's rise has led local columnists to ask whether Bush should even replace Riddick in the lineup now that the former USC running back has re- turned. NFL NOTES Through Nov. 5 • The New England Patriots released former Irish defensive lineman Kona Schwenke (2010-13) from their practice squad Nov. 5. The Patriots had signed him after the Kansas City Chiefs released him in September. • Another former Irish player no longer on New England's practice squad, though for a different reason, is running back Jonas Gray (2008-11). Due to injuries, the Patriots activated him and the Notre Dame graduate has quickly produced, registering 131 yards in three games. His top performance came in week eight, when he rushed 17 times for 86 yards in a 51-23 win over the Chicago Bears. • Prior to the start of the regular season, the Detroit Lions placed rookie wide receiver TJ Jones (2010-13) on the physically unable to perform list due to lingering issues with a shoulder injury suf- fered in the 29-16 Pinstripe Bowl win over Rutgers last December. While the list allows the team to activate the player after six weeks, The Detroit Free Press reported that Jones will stay on the list through the remainder of the season. • Tight end Kyle Rudolph (2008-10) returned to the practice field Nov. 4 for the first time since undergoing sports hernia surgery in September. He hopes to return for the VIkings' week 11 game at Chicago on Nov. 16. ✦ Minnesota tight end Kyle Rudolph is hoping to return to action by mid-November. PHOTO COURTESY MINNESOTA VIKINGS
