That was the third fewest at a Notre Dame football game since Blue & Gold Illus- trated was first published in 1981, Gerry Faust's inaugural year as the head coach of the Fight- ing Irish. Notre Dame had also played at FedEx Field in 2011, versus Maryland in the Shamrock Series. The attendance in that game was almost double with 70,251. Next year, Notre Dame will play Boston Col- lege at Boston's venerable Fenway Park, which officially seats 37,500 for baseball but could be expanded by several thousand for football.
