Recruiting Notes The Irish coaching staff has offered 64 prospects from the class of 2016, and Blue & Gold Illustrated has learned the names of five players that are expected to land an offer from the Notre Dame coaching staff in the coming months. • Tampa (Fla.) Blake five-star defensive end Shavar Manuel has offers from Alabama, Florida State, Clemson, Miami, Florida, Penn State, Ohio State and many others. At 6-5 and 262 pounds, Manuel is one of the more college-ready prospects from the class of 2016. He has the size, speed, power and athleticism to be an elite defensive lineman at the next level. It looks like Florida State holds the early edge for Manuel. Per 247Sports, Manuel is the No. 2 overall recruit in the nation, the No. 1 strongside defensive end nationally and the No. 1 player in Florida. • Running back Devwah Whaley, a 6-0, 190-pounder from Beaumont (Texas) Central Senior High, has the speed, vision, agility and quickness that would make him an ideal fit in the system that head coach Brian Kelly uses at Notre Dame. Whaley holds offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and others, but national perception is that Texas A&M holds the early edge in the four-star running back's recruitment. Per 247Sports, Whaley is the No. 162 overall recruit in the land, the No. 10 athlete in the country and the No. 22 prospect in Texas. • Length, physicality, instincts and confidence are just some of the traits to like about Pittsburgh Central Cath- olic four-star cornerback Damar Hamlin. He is an exceptional student-athlete who works just as hard off the field as he does on it. He has a great deal of interest in Notre Dame due to the academic opportunities offered in South Bend, and he's watched multiple Irish games this season.
