Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly … On the offensive performance: "If we don't turn the football over, I don't think we're having this conver- sation right now. But, we turned the football over. We would have plenty of points on the board." On senior running back Cam Mc- Daniel's fumble: "He's our senior. He's always been in late for us. We counted on him to be the guy that gets us our tough yardage late in the game, and is sure-handed and tough and physical. "It just didn't work out that way today … Cam McDaniel doesn't fumble the football, especially when we're closing out games." On his recent public criticisms of sophomore wide receiver Will Fuller: "I wanted him to be the guy that makes the big play. He made a huge catch in the end zone when we were kind of mucking it around there. "We needed somebody to step up and make a play, and he went up in traffic and made a huge play for us." Notre Dame senior running back Cam McDaniel … On what mistakes he sees during the week: "They're really just show- ing up on Saturdays. We're just not executing. You just can't do that. "We can't win football games and turn the ball over." On the Irish miscues: "It was defi- nitely a sloppy game. Look at the stat sheet. It'll show you everything. FROM THE LOCKER ROOM Pat Fitzgerald starred as an All-American linebacker in Northwestern's 1995 victory at Notre Dame (17-15), but this season's 43-40 overtime triumph as the head coach of the Wildcats was even more gratifying to him.
