UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Molly Seidel — Cross Country The junior finished 19th at the NCAA Championships Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind. Seidel's time of 20:23.4 paced Notre Dame to a 29th-place finish, with senior Emily Frydrych crossing the line next for Notre Dame in 21:23.1. Seidel became the first Irish woman to earn All- America honors since Lindsey Fergusen did so in 2009. Michael Clevenger — Cross Country The junior raced at the NCAA Championships as an individual after earning all-region honors at the Great Lakes Regional Championship by finishing sixth Nov. 14. At the NCAA Championships, Clevenger finished 67 sec- onds slower than he did a week earlier, crossing the line 92nd. He also claimed All-ACC honors by placing 21st at the conference championship meet Oct. 31. Jon Gallagher — Soccer The freshman forward scored the winning goal in top-seeded Notre Dame's 2-1 victory over Ohio State Nov. 23 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Freshman forward Jeffrey Farina set up the goal that came in the 69th minute. Both rookies made their im- pacts felt on the tight match after entering the contest at halftime. The tally — following sophomore defense- man Brandon Aubrey's penalty kick goal in the 30th minute — sent Notre Dame into the round of 16, only two games away from the College Cup in Cary, N.C. Catherine Lee — Fencing The junior epeeist swept through pool play at the Penn State Open Nov. 22 to enter the single-elimination rounds as the top seed, only to fall 15-13 in the final bout to Ohio State's Eugenia Falqui. Junior foilist Nicole McKee and sophomore sabreist Allison Barry finished second and third, respectively, in their crafts. TOP OF THE CLASS
