FAN FORUM FIVE-YEAR REVIEW After five years of the Brian Kelly era, there is: • No real power running game, re- sulting in the need to finesse touch- downs from within the red zone. • A defense that has been solved, frequently does not play its most physi- cally talented players, and has poor tackling. • Very spare use of the best players on special teams. • Poor in-game decisions. Trying a two-point conversion versus North- western when there was no benefit in succeeding at it. With a possibility of only two more offensive plays near Louisville's goal, immediately calling timeout with more than 50 seconds re- maining and (had the Irish scored a TD on third down or a tying field goal on fourth down) leaving time for Louis- ville to attempt to score. • Playing up or down versus strong or weak opponents, requiring starters on offense to play virtually the entirety of games. Did players ever turn their backs on Ara Parseghian or Lou Holtz and walk away when the coach was talking to them? This is not the best of Notre Dame football. "Get used to it?" Peter Dockery Via the Internet NO RESPECT In the loss to Louisville, the TV an- nouncers noted Everett Golson's fum- ble in the Louisville game along with his lack of urgency to help in recover- ing it. In watching all season, when Coach Kelly attempts to talk to Golson as he comes off the field, Golson's lack of eye contact or stopping to give the coach his undivided attention has been a con- cern of mine. Senior Everett Golson's sometimes heated sideline exchanges with Brian Kelly have not gone unnoticed by Irish fans, but the head coach noted that he and his quarterback are on the same page.
