PREP PROFILES When evaluating quarterbacks from the class of 2016, you'll be hard pressed to find a better signal-caller than Ran- cho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Mar- garita Catholic's KJ Costello. The 6-4, 213-pound four-star recruit holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Tennessee, Stanford, USC and many others. How- ever, he's trying to stay patient with Notre Dame and hopes to add an of- fer from the Irish in the near future. " N o t r e D a m e has been in con- stant contact with me throughout the past year," Costello said. "I've talked with [quarterbacks] Coach [Matt] LaF- leur on multiple oc- casions. I like him a lot. We've had some good talks. They've expressed a lot of interest, and I have a lot of interest in them. "They haven't offered yet, but it would mean a whole lot if they did. They would definitely be in the mix." Costello was on a college campus tour for a few weeks this past summer, visiting Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida State and Florida along the way. During that trip, the West Coast stand- out also made it to Notre Dame for a visit June 16. However, that wasn't his first trip to South Bend. "The visit this summer was awe- some," Costello said. "It was a great experience. "My dad was a huge Notre Dame fan, and he still has a lot of friends in South Bend. I've actually been to two games there, too, but it was when I was a kid. I was there once for a game four or five years ago and then another when I was really young." As far as other schools pushing hard for his ser- v i c e s , C o s t e l l o made it clear that two stand out at this point — USC and Stanford. "Those are the top two," Costello said. "I've always had a great deal of in- terest in both programs, and they have recruited me hard since day one. I have a terrific relationship with both coach- ing staffs." Through 10 games in his junior sea- son, Costello had completed 217 of 355 passing attempts (61.0 percent) for 2,921 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions. — Tom Loy West Coast QB Patiently Waiting For Notre Dame Offer KJ COSTELLO ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Santa Margarita Catholic Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
