MEN'S BASKETBALL 10 early. Grant scored a season-high 24 points in the victory with a 10-of-13 effort from the field to go along with eight assists. Connaughton had to sit early after pick- ing up a pair of quick fouls and played most of the game with three. However, he knocked down a trio of critical three- pointers in the final five minutes to help the Irish survive. "We calmed down after the first 10 minutes," Brey said after the game. "It's a real area of growth for us." Junior forward Zach Auguste and sophomore point guard Demetrius Jack- son also delivered in their first test away from home. Despite early foul trouble, Auguste maintained a presence on both ends of the floor and finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jackson keyed the comeback by slowing the offense down and maintaining the defensive on-ball pressure that has been consistent this season. The Irish finished the trip at 4-1 and were slated to host Grambling State on Nov. 26 and Chicago State on Nov. 29 before another critical test against Michi- gan State, which will play at Purcell Pa- vilion as part of the ACC-Big Ten Chal- lenge on Dec. 3. The Spartans nearly lost to Navy (64-59), a team Notre Dame topped 92-53 at home. Head coach Tom Izzo's group lost against Duke 81-71 in the Champions Classic on Nov. 18 at Indianapolis. For Brey, the focus is on proving that 2013-14 was an aberration and that his program is back in gear. "This unit is separate from last year now," he said. "They've had so many experiences together." ✦ 2014-15 NOTRE DAME MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent (TV) Result/Time (ET) Nov. 14 Binghamton^ W, 82-39 Nov. 16 Navy^ W, 92-53 Nov. 19 Coppin State W, 104-67 Nov. 22 vs. Massachusetts* W, 81-68 Nov. 23 vs. Providence* L, 75-74 Nov. 26 Grambling State (ESPN3) 7 p.m. Nov. 29 Chicago State (ESPN3) 2 p.m. Dec. 3 Michigan State# (ESPN2) 7:15 p.m. Dec. 6 Fairleigh Dickinson (ESPN3) 8 p.m. Dec. 9 Mount St. Mary's (ESPN3) 7 p.m. Dec. 13 Florida State (ESPN2) 8 p.m. Dec. 20 vs. Purdue% (Big Ten Net.) 5:15 p.m. Dec. 22 Northern Illinois (ESPN3) 7 p.m. Dec. 30 Hartford (ESPN3) 7 p.m. Jan. 3 Georgia Tech (ACCN) 2:30 p.m. Jan. 5 at North Carolina (ESPN/2) 7 p.m. Jan. 10 Virginia (ESPN2) 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at Georgia Tech (RSN) 7 p.m. Jan. 17 Miami (ESPN/2) 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at Virginia Tech (RSN) 7 p.m. Jan. 25 at N.C.
