It led head coach Brian Kelly to open up the quarterback race in December, and he indicated that both Golson and sophomore Malik Zaire would play against LSU in the Music City Bowl Dec. 30. However, unless Golson were to throw six in- terceptions and no touchdowns against the Ti- gers, his 2014 campaign would be only the fifth in Notre Dame football history in which an Irish quarterback threw at least 10 more touchdown passes than interceptions (including bowl games). The first time it happened was during Rick Mir- er's senior season in 1992, when he was plus-11, a feat matched by Ron Powlus two years later. Here are the top five touchdown-to-interception margins, with all occurring in the last 10 years because of the much greater emphasis on the passing game. Quarterback (Year) TD-Int. (Ratio) 1. Brady Quinn (2006) 37-7 (plus-30) 2. Brady Quinn (2005) 32-7 (plus-25) 3. Jimmy Clausen (2009) 28-4 (plus-24) 4. Everett Golson (2014)* 29-14 (plus-15) 5. Tommy Rees (2013) 27-13 (plus-14) * Bowl game not yet included MOVING? Let our customer service department know your new address! CALL US 1-800-421-7751
