senior year in 2006. Through Golson's
first two months of the season, those
"treats" made him a top-five Heisman
Trophy candidate.
The "trick" part was 22 turnovers —
14 interceptions and eight lost fumbles
— with half of them in November to
facilitate a four-game losing streak that
resulted in a 7-5 regular-season record.
The Heisman candidate entering
November lost his starting job to soph-
omore Malik Zaire in preparation for
the bowl game, and rumors then sur-
faced of Golson transferring.
"It was a hard week for sure," Gol-
son said when Kelly told him shortly
after the USC game that he no lon-
ger was going to be automatically
anointed in the starting role. "I un-
derstood it from his perspective. I can
only control what I can control and I
didn't do a great job of that."
Senior quarterback Everett Golson produced 3,632 yards of total offense and 37 touchdowns during the
regular season, but also coughed up 22 turnovers.
