Turner 's imposing presence inside makes head coach Muffet McGraw's squad a bona fide threat to stay among the nation's elite for years to come. Unlike many first-year post players in college who often find themselves in quick foul trouble, Turner so far has been able to avoid that issue, although doing it consistently in ACC play will be the next challenge. "The first thing their high school coach tells them is don't foul," Mc- Graw said of top players such as Turner. "They generally don't guard the other team's best player, maybe they play some zone to protect them. So they've never really played de- fense, a lot of them. "It's a little bit easier for the guards, but it's very difficult for the posts. Bri's doing a great job of coming along and understanding what we're trying to do defensively. … The length is really critical. Jewell [Loyd] has that same ability. It always helps to be quick and [Turner] gets there in a hurry." Turner said it's all about body con- trol, and then with her quickness and leaping ability "go for the shot after they release it, and not when it comes off their hand. "There are players with better body control at this level," Turner added. She even considered sitting out the four games a positive in her growth. "Watching from the bench is really a different perspective, so I can see like I need to go faster on my cuts, or on de- fense I need to be in this spot," Turner said. "It was a really good learning experience."
