WOMEN'S BASKETBALL and what's working. There are al‑ ways little things to work on, too, like less turnovers and statistical things, but I think leading is the big thing I'm still trying to improve on every day." ❏ WOMEN'S BASKETBALL REWIND: DEC. 10-JAN. 11 Overall Record: 11-5 Big Ten Record: 3-2 Best Win — 74‑65 vs. Michigan State Jan. 4: The Wolverines led by as many as 20 points and, when the lead was cut to seven late in the second half, made big shots in the final minutes for a nine-point win over the then-No. 24 Spartans. Freshman guard Katelynn Flaherty led the way for Michigan with 21 points, going 5 of 9 from three-point range and a perfect 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Sophomore point guard Siera Thompson made three triples en route to scoring 17 points. Senior forward Cyesha Goree had 14 points and nine rebounds to go along with three steals, and classmate Shannon Smith had 11 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Senior Nicole Elmblad recorded seven rebounds and five steals, while Michigan forced 24 turnovers on the day and recorded 15 team steals. Worst Loss — 70‑50 at Notre Dame Dec. 13: Goree recorded her fifth dou- ble-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, but U-M fell 70-50 to No. 5 Notre Dame. U-M struggled from the field, shooting just 34.5 percent (19 of 55) compared to Notre Dame's 51.7 percent (31 of 60). MVP — Senior forward Cyesha Goree: Through the first 16 games of the season, Goree averaged a double-double (14.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game). She recorded a double-double in six of Michigan's last eight games, pushing her season total to 10. She stood fourth in the Big Ten and ninth na- tionally in double-doubles, and ranked fifth in the conference in rebounds per game. Notable Stat: Michigan had four players scoring in double figures through the first 16 contests of the season in Flaherty (14.7 points per game), Goree (14.5), Smith (13.9) and Thompson (10.9). Upcoming Games To Watch — at Northwestern Jan. 17 and at Iowa Jan. 22: The Wolverines will face their toughest road trip of the season when they take on the Wildcats and Hawkeyes. Through Jan. 12, Northwestern was 13-2 overall and tied for second in the Big Ten with a 3-1 mark. The Hawkeyes were 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the league. True road games have proven difficult for the Wolverines this season, and these two are as tough as they get within the conference. — Brandon Brown
