INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MAIZE AND BLUE NOTEBOOK SEVERAL HIRINGS FOR WOLVERINES One Michigan coaching hire drew most of the attention, but a number of Olympic sports teams were busy bolstering their staffs at the beginning of the new year. The new coaches included the following: • Men's tennis associate head coach Sean Maymi, who worked with the U-M men's tennis program previously from 2006-11. After leaving Ann Arbor, he spent six months at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Md., a high-level training center for young players, and served three years at Todd Martin Tennis in Ponte Vedra, Fla. • Women's soccer assistant coach Tiffany Hansen. She will work with Michi- gan's goalies, after a four-year stint at the University of Dayton. She was the goalies coach at Dayton, in addition to serving as the program's recruiting coordinator and camp director. She started her career with three years as a goalkeeper coach at Bowling Green. • Women's lacrosse assistant coach Alyssa Murray. She served as a volunteer assistant coach at Stony Brook University this past fall, working with attackers, midfielders and the starting goalie. She experienced an amazing playing career at Syracuse, helping the Orange go 68-19 with three NCAA Tournament appearances including two trips to the national championship game. She was a team captain, a two-time Tewaaraton Award (most outstanding player nationally) finalist, and a three-time All- American. MEN'S GYMNASTICS NO. 2 IN POLL Kurt Golder's men's gymnastics team hasn't taken a back seat to anyone over the past two seasons. The Wolverines have dominated the national scene, win- ning consecutive Big Ten and national championship in the springs of 2013 and 2014. An old foe looms large for 2015, though, in the Wolverines' attempt to get to the top of the mountain for a third consecutive year. Ohio State was chosen in the preseason coaches' poll to win the conference this year, with Michigan home. And I will likely do something in entrepreneurship; I'm very inter- ested in that field. "Back home, if I wear a Michigan shirt, random people just yell, 'Go Blue!' That's something you just don't expect and it's amazing. I'm 15 hours on a plane away and people are yell- ing 'Go Blue!' at me. I will never forget what Michigan gave me and I will al- ways come back and visit." — Brandon Brown
