FRESHMEN FINDING
THEIR WAY
Beilein has a 15-man roster featur-
ing six true freshmen and a redshirt
freshman. While he's showcased
several rookies recently who spent
two years at Crisler before opting out
early for the NBA — including Big
Ten Players of the Year Stauskas and
Trey Burke, who was also consensus
National Player of the Year — this is
different.
Michigan has a crop of freshmen
that will grow together and become
integral parts. It does not have any-
one who will be gone after next sea-
son.
Chatman started the first 14 games,
but was shooting 29.3 percent over-
all through 17 games, including 25.0
percent from three-point range. He's
also trying to grow in his understand-
ing of what Michigan is doing at both
ends of the court.
True freshman Ricky Doyle has
stepped up the most forcefully among
the rookies. He averaged 7.6 points
and 3.2 rebounds per game through
the first 17, connecting on 68.1 per-
