FOOTBALL RECRUITING
No. 13 weakside defensive end nation-
ally, was committed to Michigan State
for a few days back in February, but he
decided to reopen his recruitment to
make sure that he has evaluated all his
options. While Kareem remains a long
shot to pick Notre Dame at the moment,
Robertson is the opposite.
Rated by Rivals.com as the No. 2
prospect in Indiana and the No. 9 weak-
side defensive end in the country, Rob-
ertson has named a top three of Ohio
State, Michigan State and Notre Dame.
He's set to announce his decision June
7, with many believing the Irish are bat-
tling only Michigan State for his ser-
vices.
Robertson has hinted in the past that
he has a strong relationship with Elston,
but the Junior Day visit will mark the
first chance he'll have to talk with new
defensive line coach Keith Gilmore.
That meet and greet will be important,
and the same logic applies to Johnson.
The No. 5 prospect in New Jersey and
the No. 5 weakside defensive end in the
country according to Rivals.com, John-
son could travel more than 600 miles
on his own dime for the visit. While
he's had contact with Elston and area
recruiter Scott Booker, there has been
minimal interaction with Gilmore. Ju-
nior Day will provide the opportunity
for Johnson to get some one-on-one
time with the staff, which will be the
case among all four defensive ends.
Notre Dame has a track record over
the years of securing verbal pledges
from prospects that visit for Junior Day,
and Elston hopes that doesn't change
with one of the more impressive defen-
sive line visitor lists in the past decade.
