IT STARTS WITH YOU THE PATH TO SUCCESS Academics Preparation Competition Service Graduation Lifelong Success ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ ▼ Every Virginia student-athlete's schedule is filled with academic and athletic commitments. With tasks rang- ing from class and tutoring to projects that have to be done on their own time, from practice and weight lifting to competition, sometimes it feels like there are not enough hours in the day. Fourth-year swimmer Emily Dicus notes that despite her jam-packed schedule, now is the time to give back to her community. In a few years, kids will look at her more as an adult than a peer, her athletic career will likely be over and she could have a family of her own. "I just think it's really important to find your niche in the community and give back any way you can," she said. "Being a college student-athlete at UVa, we're so fortunate, and I think it's important to pay it forward. We need to show the community that we appreciate their support." Dicus is involved in a number of community outreach programs. In addition to volunteering with Athletes Committed to Community and Education (A.C.E.) — SERVICE The UVa field hockey team works with Habitat for Humanity.
