John Paul Jones Arena and hit a go-ahead three- pointer in the final seconds to shock Virginia. The in-state rivalry was going strong when the teams collided in a rematch at the Siegel Center Dec. 6. Virginia shot a season-high 68 percent from the field — the second-best shooting performance in program history. UVa attacked VCU's vaunted press from the get-go, making the Rams pay with a number of layups and dunks, and snapped the Rams' 22-game home winning streak with an impressive 74-57 win. Virginia entered the winter exam break 9-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season. After a home win over Cleveland State, Virginia had one of its most impressive performances — a 76-27 victory over Harvard at JPJ. The Crimson's 27 points were the second fewest allowed by UVa in the shot-clock era. The Cavaliers held the Crim- son to just one made field goal in the first half, tying an NCAA record. "I thought we'd be ready," Bennett said, "but I didn't know we'd be that ready." Virginia shot 60 percent from the field and held Harvard — a preseason top-25 team that had made the previous three NCAA Tournaments — to 16-percent shooting, the lowest percentage an opponent has ever made against them. Brogdon put the clamps on Crimson leading scorer Wesley Saunders. The senior came into the game as the only player in the country averaging 20-plus points, seven-plus rebounds and four-plus assists, but finished with a mere four points (all from the free throw line), one rebound and no assists. Mike Tobey had one of his best games of the season. The third-year center scored Virginia's first nine points. With five minutes to play in the half, Tobey had already achieved his season high of 15 points. Virginia led 39-8 at the break.
