WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS No. 6 Michigan re-asserted itself at the top of the Big Ten with its second straight conference championship March 21 before recording its third con- secutive top-two finish at the NCAA Re- gionals with a runner-up performance April 4 … Sophomore Nicole Artz was Michigan's top performer at the Big Ten Championships, winning the all-around title with a score of 39.650, capturing the balance beam event (9.950) and tying for first on the uneven bars (9.950) … Senior Sachi Sugiyama and sophomore Talia Chiarelli added to the Wolverines' haul with a split title on the floor exercise (9.925) … Rookie Brianna Brown finished fourth in the all-around (39.550) and was named Co-Freshman of the Year while head coach Bev Plocki was recognized with Coach of the Year honors … Sugi- yama was the lone Wolverine to capture an individual event title at the NCAA Re- gionals, taking first on the vault (9.925) … Artz, though, was named the Regional Gymnast of the Year … U-M will compete at the NCAA Championships April 17-19. MEN'S LACROSSE (5-6, 1-2 BIG TEN) The Wolverines dipped below .500 in the Big Ten following a 13-8 home loss to Ohio State April 12 … Michigan equaled its win total from last season when it scored its fifth victory of the year, a 10-8 triumph over Rutgers April 5 … With sophomore Ian King's four goals and ju- nior Kyle Jackson's three markers against the Scarlet Knights, the Wolverines had recorded 10 hat tricks this season through April 12 … Up to 57 goals and 18 assists now, Jackson ranks first all time at U-M with 75 career points … His 57 goals are also a program record, 10 ahead of King's 47 … The Maize and Blue have two regular-season games remaining, includ- ing a home game at Michigan Stadium April 25 versus Penn State. WOMEN'S LACROSSE (5-9, 0-3 BIG TEN) After a strong start, Michigan struggled, losing six games in a row through April 12 … The Wolverines' roster features six play- ers that have scored in double figures this season: sophomores Kim Coughlan (29 goals), Jess Angerman (28), Anna Schueler (27), Lauren Oberlander (18), Men's lacrosse head coach John Paul led the Wolverines to a 5-6 mark through April 12, already equaling U-M's win total from all of last season.
