76 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING ing the first evaluation weekend, including NC State's Moxley. "It shows a lot of respect and that they really care about me," Fultz said of the coaches coming to see him play. "Every offer I get is real big. I will be blessed to go to school for free, and I have all these schools that would like me to come there." Fultz is now a marked player thanks to his lofty national ranking. "New Orleans was a great learning ex‑ perience for me and my team," Fultz said. "We got to see all the competition that we are going to play against [on the Under Armour circuit]. It turned out to be great and we ended up 3‑1. I couldn't really complain." Gottfried and Moxley were able to watch Fultz play during the high school season and offered him Feb. 8. NC State and De‑ Matha Catholic have a long tradition with each other. Some of the former NC State players from DeMatha include Kenny Carr, Hawk‑ eye Whitney, Sidney Lowe, Dereck Whit‑ tenburg, Benny Bolton, Quentin Jackson, Jordan Collins and current sophomore cen‑ ter BeeJay Anya. Lowe and Whittenburg won the NCAA title in 1983, the second championship for NC State. Whittenburg is currently part of Gottfried's coaching staff. "I know the history," Fultz said. "It shows the connection they have with De‑ Matha coaches, and there have been a lot of good DeMatha players that have gone there." Fultz followed Anya's progress this sea‑ son, while watching NC State play on television. "I knew BeeJay when he went to school, and he's a good big brother to me," Fultz said. "I haven't talked to him about recruit‑ ing, but I am proud of what he did this year." Fultz would like to take an unofficial visit to NC State when the schedule allows. He had hoped to catch a game live at PNC Arena, but wasn't able to fit it in between his own games and school obligations. The list of schools recruiting Fultz is long and impressive. He said North Caro‑ lina is starting to show interest, and he's waiting on Kentucky, Ohio State and Duke. Louisville was his latest offer. Fultz's first offer actually came from another school in North Carolina. "My first offer was from High Point," Fultz recalled. "That was during my junior year at team camp at DeMatha Catholic." Next season, Fultz will team up with sophomore wing D.J. Harvey, who is also a NC State target, on what will be another quality DeMatha Catholic squad.
