BEST OF THE BUST Reliving The Memorable Moments From Michigan's Bust F BY MICHAEL SPATH ormer Wolverine great, and 1991 Heisman Trophy winner, Desmond How- ard was tabbed to emcee Michigan's Football Bust Dec. 12 — an annual dinner that pays tribute to the Wolverines' graduating seniors. Unlike the past three years, in which the Bust was seemingly a somber occasion in which patrons attended simply because they always had, this year's edition featured a packed house in a celebratory mood. 20 THE WOLVERINE JANUARY 2012 Howard added to the festivities by praising the Maize and Blue for their 10-2 season, and for putting U-M back on track. But the highlights of the night belonged to the seniors, who were each allowed a few min- utes to speak to the gathered crowd. First, though, a few memorable moments from the night: • Honored Team: Michigan paid tribute to the 1991 team, and its 20-year anniversary. In addition to Howard, quarterback Elvis Grbac, defensive lineman Chris Hutchinson, linebacker Erick Anderson, tight end Dave Diebolt and offensive guard John Woodlock were in attendance. The 1991 team went 10-2, including an 8-0 mark in conference play that earned the Maize and Blue a fourth consecutive Big Ten title. U-M's only two defeats came to No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Washington (in the Rose Bowl). The Wolverines finished sixth in the Associated Press poll and went 4-2 against ranked teams. • Loudest Applause: There were numerous ovations throughout the night, including a long, loud cheer when Brady Hoke was introduced for
