BASKETBALL RECRUITING McGary scored 13 points in a 102-57 win over Rise Academy (Pa.) Dec. 5, notched 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in an 84-49 victory over MCI Dec. 9 and helped Brewster beat Tilton 84-78 in overtime Dec. 10, notching 11 points and nine rebounds. Brewster stands 10-0 on the season and will be off until Jan. 6. Class of 2013 ZAK IRVIN, SF 6-6 • 190 Fishers (Ind.) Hamilton Southeastern Rivals.com No. 54 junior nationally Irvin scored 18 points and made 4 of 6 three-pointers in a 74-59 win over Zionsville Dec. 16. He added nine re- bounds in the victory. Irvin got in early foul trouble the next night against In- dianapolis North Central, led by Purdue guard commitment Ronnie Thompson, but still scored 17 points in a six-point loss, Southeastern's first setback of the year. Irvin was averaging 17.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. DERRICK WALTON, PG 6-0 • 170 Harper Woods (Mich.) Chandler Park Academy Rivals.com No. 87 junior nationally Walton and Harper Woods had played only two games as of Dec. 19, and one was an 86-19 laugher over Capac Dec. 5 in which Walton notched a triple-double with 17 points, 10 assists and 10 steals before being pulled in the second half. Walton scored a team-high 19 in Chan- dler Park Academy's 51-49 win over Ann Arbor Skyline Dec. 16. MARK DONNAL 6-9 • 210 Whitehouse (Ohio) Anthony Wayne Rivals.com No. 124 junior nationally Donnal put up 36 points in a 57-48 win over defending league champion Bowl- ing Green (Ohio) Dec. 9, scoring inside and out. Donnal opened the scoring by converting an alley-oop, hit step-back jump shots, scored inside and knocked down three-pointers in an impressive showing. Donnal scored 16 in a 57-53 win over Northview Dec. 13 and 22 in a 52-40 victory over Springfield Dec. 17. He was averaging 20.8 points per game for a 4-0 Wayne squad. AND OTHER 2013 PROSPECTS Despite having four in the fold for WATCHING BYRON ZEIGLER MICHIGAN STILL 2013, Michigan coaches continue to observe other prospects. One — De- troit Community guard/forward By- ron Zeigler — has played well and will be someone head coach John Beilein and his staff watch closely this year. Indiana also seems to have made the 6-6 Zeigler a priority, and he vis- ited the campus recently for the Hoo- siers' win over then-No. 1 Kentucky. Asked by Rivals.com who has been recruiting him the hardest, he said, "Indiana is on me a lot, and Iowa State, Michigan and Michigan State. I don't really have a favorite yet." Vermont Academy big man Dominic Wood- son, checks in as the No. 9 stock-on- the-rise player in his class according to Rivals.com. "A native Texan, the 6-9, 250-plus- pound big man slid into the national top 100 for the class of 2013 following the summer," they wrote Dec. 13. "It looks like his climb up the rankings will continue. Not only is he big and strong, but he dominates the glass, has soft hands and a high level of skill." Woodson is Rivals.com's No. 89 ju- nior nationally. ❑ NOTES • The Wolverines continue to re- cruit 6-8, 240-pound sophomore forward Tyler Wideman of St. John (Ind.) Lake Central, signee Glenn Robinson III's teammate. Wideman notched 13 points and nine re- bounds against Crown Point Dec. 9, added another 13 against Ches- terton Dec. 13 and contributed 12 points and nine rebounds in a vic- tory over Merrillville Dec. 17.
