A host of Michigan's best senior athletes were honored at the 68th Bob Ufer Quarterback Club an- nual sports banquet May 4. New head football coach Jim Harbaugh popped in to speak and boost the numbers. The club, named in honor of the iconic Michigan broadcaster, has provided in excess of $1 million in funds, from underwriting scholar- ships for local high school seniors to attend Michigan, to donating to- ward U-M's academic center for ath- letes, to endowing a football scholar- ship. Harbaugh's presence helped swell attendance numbers at the banquet, conducted at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor. The record at- tendance at the event had been 215, and this year 's crowd featured 280, according to Tom Ufer, Bob's son. The U-M head coach wasn't mak- ing any big promises, though. "We're working," Harbaugh said. "On behalf of our staff, on behalf of our players, we relish that fair, hon- est and healthy competitive environ- ment. We invite it, and we welcome it … "I've got no answers for you, only a lot of questions.
