2015 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE
comes from a high-character family,
another thing that was key for Michi-
gan, and proved in front of Beilein
that he's skilled, shooting and pass-
ing the ball well.
"Coach Beilein was really im-
pressed with how quick he was from
the shoulders up," Maska said. "His
rebounding and length were one
thing, but he really gets that ball up
quickly."
Those qualities have also im-
pressed opponents. Hillsdale (Mich.)
High head coach Brad Felix has
coached for more than two decades
and has seen great players come and
go, but he insists he's never seen a
big man as good as Davis.
"There are a lot of naysayers
around saying he's too slow, not ath-
letic enough — those are some of the
things I've heard," he said. "I've been
coaching here for 24 years, and he's
the best big we've seen. I told every-
one before he committed, 'He's the
best big man I've seen in a long time.'
I really felt [Big Ten basketball] was
the next step for him."
In three years, he said, those who
took a pass will lament the day they
did. It might not have mattered,
however, given how much Davis
loves his Wolverines.
"It's definitely always been a
dream of mine to be there," he said.
"I grew up in a big Michigan fam-
ily, going to Crisler to watch bas-
ketball games, always saw them on
TV or the football games in The Big
House."
Soon enough, he'll be the one peo-
ple are watching. ❑
