INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS MICHIGAN'S TOP OLYMPIC SPORTS PERFORMERS Senior volleyball player Tiffany Morales: The 5-6 libero/defensive specialist out of Hermosa Beach, Calif., has never garnered much attention despite racking up 1,468 digs and 314 assists in her first three seasons. This year, Morales continues to prove her defensive acumen, recording 141 digs in 11 matches (13 per match) through Sept. 22, and is on pace for another 400-dig campaign. Junior golfer Tom Swanson: The Missoula, Mont., native enjoyed a terrific start to his junior season, recording the first top-10 finish of his career with a 5-over-par 218 at the Gopher Invitational Sept. 13- 14. Swanson rallied to finish sixth overall in the field with a final-round even-par 71. In 14 career events previously, Swanson had a career-best 26th-place finish. Senior field hockey player Shannon Scavelli: A four-year starter, with 56 career starts among 69 total appearances through Sept. 14, Scavelli is on pace for a career season. She leads the team with five goals in eight games, and needs only two tallies to match her pervious best of seven in 2014. Junior cross country runner Erin Finn: Michigan dominated its season opener in the EMU Celebra- tion Sept. 12, with all 12 of its runners finishing among the first 25 places. Finn ran unattached (not an official scorer for U-M) and easily won the 5,000-meter race in a time of 16:54.9, a full 11 sec- onds better than the event's runner-up time of 17:06.2. Sophomore soccer player Megan Hinz: The Wolverines are off to a 7-3 start, and Hinz is a big reason why — the netminder out of Eldersburg, Md., allowed only seven goals in her first eight ap- pearances through Sept. 22. Astonishingly, her 0.97 goals allowed per game ranks 11th in the Big Ten.
