GAME PREVIEW: WAKE FOREST "So who quarterbacks against Notre Dame? I have no earthly clue. I'm as- suming both quarterbacks are healthier off the bye week and that they'll both play — but if I had to guess, Wolford probably will start." Regardless of which signal-caller is lined up behind center, they'll both have their go-to target available in redshirt sophomore tight end Cam Serigne. The former third-team Freshman All-Amer- ican according to Athlon leads the Dea- cons with 38 receptions and three receiv- ing touchdowns, and ranks second on the team with 410 receiving yards. "He's a great pass catcher, but he's an adequate blocker," Johns said. "A lot of times when Wake Forest is looking to use the tight ends to block, they'll go to a two-tight-end set. But he's someone both quarterbacks can find as a release valve, if their receivers aren't open deep they can pitch it to Serigne and, more often than not, he'll get a positive gain for them. "He's not someone who's going to break out a big play, but he is someone you can count on to pick up some yard- age regularly." The Deacons' calling card this year hasn't been their offense, though — it's been the defense, which they'll have to rely on for any chance to upset the Irish in South Bend. Heading into November, Wake Forest ranked 31st nationally in total defense, allowing only 344 yards per game, thanks in part to a strong front seven that Johns said includes a linebacker group that could be one of the strongest in the ACC. Fifth-year senior Brandon Chubb h e a d l i n e s t h a t u n i t . T h e 6 - 1 , 245-pounder finished with a team- high 109 tackles last season, earning third-team All-ACC honors from the league's coaches.
