UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Kristian Archer — Fencing The junior from Cambridge, United Kingdom, took home gold in the foil at the Penn State Garret Open Nov. 7-8, an event that was dominated by the Irish. All told, Notre Dame took home four medals. The 2014 third-team All-American defeated junior teammate John Crumpler 15-7 in the quarterfinals, then won handedly against another teammate, Virgile Collineau, 15-2 in the final. Brandon Aubrey — Soccer The junior defender from Plano, Texas, scored the lone goal in No. 9 Notre Dame's 1-0 win over No. 17 Virginia Nov. 8, helping the Irish advance to the ACC Tournament semifinals versus No. 1 Wake Forest, which they topped 1-0, Nov. 11 to advance the ACC Tournament final Nov. 15. The game-winner versus Virginia came on a header off a corner kick from senior midfielder Patrick Hodan in the 87th minute. Through 19 contests, Aubrey was third on the team in goals (three) and tied for sixth in points (eight). Quinn Gleason — Tennis The senior from Mendon, N.Y., finished undefeated in the Illinois Midwest Blast, Nov. 6-8, winning all three singles matches. The No. 93 singles player nationally defeated Alexis Casati (Illinois) 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 Nov. 6, Krisztina Kapitany (Purdue) 6-2, 6-2 Nov. 7, and then won 6-2, 6-0 over Brittany Lashway (Missouri) Nov. 8. Gleason, a second-team All-ACC selection last spring, also finished 2-1 in doubles play. Natalie Jacobs — Soccer The freshman forward from Coto de Caza, Calif., was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team by the league's head coaches after finishing the regular season as the teams's second-leading scorer. Jacobs totaled four goals and five assists in the regular season, including two game-winners. Her 48 shots on the season also ranked second on the team. TOP OF THE CLASS
