FOOTBALL RECRUITING Though Michigan currently has 21 commitments and looks to sign 28 prospects, it's possible that they bring in more than six new commitments before National Signing Day. There will almost certainly be at- trition from the current commitment list. Southfield (Mich.) High four-star running back Matt Falcon suffered a season-ending knee injury for the third time in four high school sea- sons this fall, and the U-M coaching staff told him they'd prefer him to focus on his academics as a scholar- ship student assistant in Ann Arbor, rather than a player on the team. He took that opportunity to decommit from the Maize and Blue. Farmington (Mich.) High linebacker David Reese, a three-star, wants to enroll early at the school of his choice, and Michigan is unable to provide him that oppor- tunity. Florida, Texas, Nebraska and TCU are among those trying to steal him away from Michigan with the lure of a mid-year enrollment. In rankings changes, a huge senior year for Avon (Ind.) High quarterback Brandon Peters — he's completed 59.7 percent of his passes for more than 2,800 yards with 35 touchdowns — could see him move up from the Florida, Texas, Nebraska and TCU are among those trying to steal away Farmington (Mich.) High linebacker and U-M pledge David Reese, a three-star recruit who wants to enroll early but can't do so with the Wolverines. PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN
