1. F Kevin Porter, 2003‑04: Porter scored 39 goals in two seasons with USA Hockey, and he flourished offensively at Michigan, recording 85 markers and 98 assists from 2005‑08. In his final year with the Wolverines, Porter tallied 33 goals and 30 helpers in becoming the second Hobey Baker Award winner in program history. U‑M's captain in 2008, he guided the Maize and Blue to CCHA regular‑season and tournament titles, and a berth in the Frozen Four. 2. F T.J. Hensick, 2002‑03: A prolific offensive playmaker at every level, Hen‑ sick had 61 goals and 65 assists in two years with the USNTDP. Hensick's 46 points in 2004 were the most by a Michigan freshman since Mark Kosick also had 46 in 1998, and his success propelled him to CCHA Rookie of the Year honors. Hensick led the Maize and Blue in points each of his final two seasons (52 and 69 points), and finished his career eighth all time at U‑M in scoring with 222 points, including 147 assists. 3. G Al Montoya, 2002: Montoya spent just one year with USA Hockey, go‑ ing 11‑16‑4 with a 3.03 goals‑against average, but he flashed the potential that made him the No. 6 overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft. He fulfilled his hype in his first season at U‑M, leading the Wolverines to the 2003 Frozen Four with a .911 save percentage and 2.33 goals‑against average. In three seasons, Montoya racked up 86 wins — fourth all time at Michigan — and he sits fifth in program history with a career 2.36 GAA, while he ranks third with a .908 save percentage. 4. D Jack Johnson, 2004‑05: In two seasons with the USNTDP, the talented offensive defenseman accumulated 71 points, and he would waste no time showing that offensive prowess at Michigan, setting a freshman defenseman record with 32 points. He is one of just three Wolverine blue liners to score double‑digit goals in his rookie campaign, ranking third with 10. Johnson set a sophomore‑season defender record with 16 markers and fin‑ ished with 39 points during the 2007 season, giving him a career total of 71 points, 23rd all time for U‑M defensemen despite spending just two years in Ann Arbor. 5. F Andy Hilbert, 1998‑99: Scoring 70 goals and adding 66 assists in his two years wearing the red, white and blue, Hilbert was one of the most skilled of‑ fensive players to ever set foot in Yost Ice Arena. A 2000 NHL Draft second‑rounder, he spent only two seasons in a maize and blue uniform but made the most of his ice time, tallying 43 goals and 54 assists while averaging better than a point per game (1.21) during his 80‑game career. The Next Five: D Mike Komisarek (2000); F Chad Kolarik (2003‑04); F Dylan Larkin (2013‑14); D Jacob Trouba (2011‑12); and F Eric Nystrom (2000‑01). — Michael Spath
