MICHIGAN HOCKEY HOCKEY REWIND: OCT. 30-NOV. 13 Record For Oct. 30-Nov. 13: 2-1-0 Overall Record: 5-1-1 Best Win — 7-3 vs. Niagara Nov. 13: The 5,347 fans that attended Michigan's home game with the Purple Eagles were treated to an immediate and sus- tained flurry of goal scoring; U-M netted three goals in the first period to hold a 3-0 lead and was up 5-0 in the second before Niagara finally scored. In the third period, the teams combined for four goals, including sophomore Tony Calderone's fourth of the season. Michigan had six different goal scorers, with 14 players earning at least one point. Worst Loss — 4-0 to Robert Morris Oct. 31: Fans that came to Yost Ice Arena dressed up for Halloween were treated to a nightmare game in which the Wol- verines did noting right. U-M surrendered 35 total shots. Junior goalie Zach Nagelvoort was replaced in net after allowing three goals on 10 shots, while Michigan failed to light the lamp for the first time all season and the first time in 17 games, dating back to last year. Quote: "His skating and quickness are really good. His skill with the puck is exceptional. He's playing on his off wing, but he's handling it really well. And then he has really exceptional release with the puck. He shoots it before the goalie is even ready for it. Other players will get it, stick-handle it and telegraph their shot." — Head coach Red Berenson on what has impressed him about rookie Nagelvoort: "The nature of the position is always going to be a competition, but the way I look at it is I'm not competing against Steve or [freshman] Chad [Catt], I am competing against myself to be the best I can be every single day because that's the only way I can make myself better and make Steve better. And he's the same way, and we understand that the competition is a good thing." The Wolverine: Michigan is off to a 5-1-1 start. How do you feel about the potential of this year's team? Nagelvoort: "I think we have the right group of guys, and that includes my- self and Steve. All the way down the line, there is no one that is safe because of the competition at forward, defense and goalie, which is a good thing for our team. "When you get content and happy with where you are, that's when you run into issues. You need to know there is someone nipping at your heels because that keeps you sharp and keeps everyone focused on getting better day to day." — Michael Spath
