INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Student Athlete Of The Month Women's Soccer Junior Anna Soccorsi Originally from Yardley, Pa., junior defender Anna Soccorsi went to high school in New Jer- sey and eventually wound up at the University of Michigan. Her soccer experiences started at the age of three and her academic habits formed not too long after. Soccorsi gives a lot of credit to her family for both. "My parents definitely wanted my brother, Will, and I to do our best in school and sports," Soc - corsi explained. "But I think the person that instilled the impor- tance of getting good grades was my grandfather, Edward Dudnyk. He's a businessman who has worked hard to establish his career, and that's why school has been such a strong focus for me." To say Soccorsi has a strong fo - cus on school is putting it lightly. She was an NSCAA Academic All-American as a senior in high school and made the Dean's List all four years at The Pennington School in New Jersey, an institu - tion known for its rigorous cur- riculum. While at Michigan, she's been named a Big Ten Distin- guished Scholar, Academic All- Big Ten member and earned the U-M Athletic Academic Achieve- ment Award. Recently she was also named a Capital One Aca- demic All-Distric t first-team member. Soccorsi started 17 of the 18 games she played in while helping to anchor the U-M defense this year.
