UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Michael Clevenger — Cross Country The senior from Decatur, Ill., placed 38th overall at the NCAA Championships Nov. 21 in Louisville, Ky., finishing the 8,000-meter race with a time of 30:27.9. Clevenger, who was the only member of the men's team to qualify for the event, earned All-America accolades with his top-40 show- ing. It marked the second time he earned All-America distinction in his career (he received second-team honors in the outdoor 5,000 meters this past June). Chris Hubbard — Soccer The junior goalkeeper from Louisville, Ky., stopped all three pen- alty kicks he faced in a shootout with Tulsa in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Nov. 22, helping Notre Dame emerge with a 3-0 win via penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie through two overtimes. Hubbard started each of Notre Dame's first 21 games this sea- son, recording 62 saves, 10 shutouts and a 0.76 goals-against average. Sydney Kuhn — Volleyball The sophomore outside hitter from Wichita, Kan., led the team in kills (11), digs (eight) and assists (three) in a 3-0 win over Clem- son in Notre Dame's home finale Nov. 22. Kuhn started the first 30 matches of the season for the Irish, and ranked second on the team in kills (2.21 per set) and points (2.71 per set). She was also second in service aces (0.22 per set) and digs (2.42 per set). Sabrina Massialas — Fencing The freshman foilist from San Francisco finished with a 13-2 indi- vidual record at the Penn Elite Invitational Nov. 21 in Philadelphia, leading the Irish to a 5-0 record in duals for the day. Massialas, the daughter of three-time Olympian Greg Massialas, was a perfect 3-0 against Northwestern, Penn, Princeton and New Jersey Institute of Technology, and 1-2 against Ohio State, in her first collegiate meet.
