ne year ago at this
time, and into the
spring, Fighting Irish
fans worried about the
potential of over-signing,
a practice Notre Dame
does not carry out. Even
with the possibility of 90
scholarship athletes being
around for fall practice,
recent history showed
that it was more likely
that the Irish fall short
of the 85-man allowance
once the season kicked off
against Texas.
Indeed, due to a num-
ber of factors, Notre
Dame head coach Brian
Kelly even had room to
provide a scholarship to
walk-on running back
Josh Anderson in a video
that went viral. He also
had the luxury of wel-
coming back fifth-year
senior Chase Hounshell,
who converted from de-
fensive line to tight end.
